wormtownWe have a scooplet for this super-fine Friday: Wormtown Brewery, the pride of Worcester, MA, will begin distributing its super-fine beers — including its exemplary flagship IPA, Be Hoppy — in the Ocean State, with the first shipments rolling out on April 3. Funky Friday at the Grey Sail Tap Room

This just in from our pal Michelle at Grey Sail: “We are hosting ‘A Night of Funky Fermentations’ this Friday [2.24] at the Tap Room from 3-8 pm. It’s a non-ticketed event, with seven sour beers on tap and a rare bottle list available. We’ll also have charcuterie and freshly shucked oysters from Grapes and Gourmet in Jamestown and Walrus and Carpenter Oysters, respectively.” Kick off yr weekend with a trip to Westerly for some sour sipping. Here’s the list:

Read all about it: Isle Brewers Guild, ’Gansett, Newport Storm, and a whole lotta beer news

feb_2017-7195a39a The February issue of Rhode Island Monthly takes a deep dive into the 401 brew world. “The Rhode Island Beer Lover’s Guide” — a sumptuous 18-page package, bursting with gorgeous pix — has profiles of the state’s breweries and brewpubs [with extended pieces on Proclamation and Tilted Barn by Jamie Coelho] and some of the best beer bars, and a ride-along with the Rhode Island Brew Bus. And your humble correspondent was honored to contribute to the guide, with a feature on Isle Brewers Guild/Narragansett Beer and a Q&A with Newport Storm’s Brent Ryan. The ish is now available at a magazine rack near you; we encourage you to buy a copy — it’s well worth your hard-earned five bucks. The content will roll out over the next coupla weeks at rimonthly.com if you can’t wrap your head around the concept of paying for journalistic endeavors — but you really should see it in its superior glossy palpable format. [Update on 2.2 @ 10:26 pm: the IBG/’Gansett story is now online.] Here’s a [maybe-not-so-humble] sneak peek at our pages:
